THE BOY AND THE TREE - ΕΝΑ ΔΕΝΤΡΟ ΜΙΑ ΦΟΡΑ

A tender fairytale centered on the friendship between a withering and forlorn tree on the sidewalk and a homeless little boy. The film touches in a heartwarming, humane manner issues such as: "Desolation", "Abandonment", "Loneliness", "The Urban Landscape as source of social isolation", "Nature and how we choose to disregard it" and "Basic survival needs such as hunger and shelter, for all those living on the margins of a society we take for granted".

Based on the original story by Eugene Trivizas
Adapted for the screen by Eugene Trivizas and Panagiotis Rappas
Directed by Panagiotis Rappas
Music by Dimitris Papadimitriou

Mary Poppins has moved to... Thessaloniki!

Mary Poppins has left London and has moved to Thessaloniki!

More specifically, Mary Poppins 'lives' in a block of flats in the area of 40 Ekklisies in Thessaloniki and she manages to cheer people up and take their minds off their daily routines for a minute! This is a sample of street/graffiti art we would like to see more often in our grey urban landscapes!

Class 4 - An introduction to Britain!

Once again we talked about the United Kingdom, Great Britain, England and what's the difference amongst them! The students are sometimes confused with all these different names, so I hope we managed to clarify everything!

In Scotland, Wales and Ireland, there are some regional differences regarding the English language.

A Midsummer Night's Dream: the plot
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” William Shakespeare's most popular comedy, was written around 1594 or 95. It portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder - it's about the world's most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare%27s_Globe

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames that was destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern reconstruction is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings. It was founded by the actor and director Sam Wanamaker and built about 230 metres from the site of the original theatre and opened to the public in 1997, with a production of Henry V.

Class 4 - Our Italian penfriends!

A few hours before schools closed for Christmas on December 21st, we received the introduction letters our Italian penfriends sent us, along with their Christmas wishes. We were really thrilled! The project is called 'My School, My Town, My Life' and the school is in Osimo, Italy!

Of course, we didn't have enough time to write letters back but we immediately wrote and sent our Christmas wishes, promising to send our letters after our Christmas holidays.

We are currently preparing our letters and we hope to post them this coming week!

Class 3 - Magic Book (Unit 2, Lesson 2)

Class 5 & 6 - Letters to our Portuguese penfriends!

A few days before schools closed for Christmas, the students completed and sent their letters and their Christmas wishes to their Portuguese friends (see previous post). They introduced themselves and wrote about their families, their daily lives, their hobbies and their likes & dislikes. They asked their new friends many questions and they are now looking forward to receiving the answers. I was informed that the Portuguese friends were extremely excited and happy to receive the letters from Greece and they immediately started preparing their answers! The students can't wait to receive them!

The students have expressed a strong interest in knowing more about the schools and the educational system in Portugal, so this is what we will mainly focus on in the next part of this project called 'My School, My Town, My Life'.
